 Basketball Guidelines

  • Games will consist of four 6 minute quarters.
  • There will be a 6-minute half-time.  If overtime is necessary, each overtime period will be 2 minutes. After 2 overtime periods, if no team has won, the game will end in a tie.
  • Coaches will be allowed 2- 60-second timeouts per half.
  • The use of the 12 foot or 15-foot free throw line will be at the discretion of the head official. (Successful attempts to aid player development is the goal)
  • Each child must play in each quarter.
  • There will be no full court pressing until the last 2 minutes of each half. Defenders must remain inside the 3 point arch until the last 2 minutes of each half.
  • Each child may receive up to 5 fouls. 7 team fouls will result in 1 and 1 free throws. 10 team fouls will result in 2 free throw attempts.
  • Each team is allowed 3 basketballs to use for warm-ups before the game.
  • Please remember that athlete skill development, teamwork, knowledge of the game, and (most importantly) the players having fun, are the goals of the Lil’ Colts league at Albemarle School.
  • The officials will be instructed to make certain calls based on player age and skill level. Please remember that player development and enjoyment is the goal of this league.
