Inspiring Excellence and Character in a Nurturing Environment!

Grades 9th - 12th

Realizing each student’s full potential is the mission of Albemarle School’s High School. Through exposure to intellectual, social, and civic challenges, Albemarle builds the high school student’s knowledge base and critical thinking skills, while providing positive outlets for personal growth.

Academics

Academics are the cornerstone of Albemarle School's program. Students are required to complete at least 24 units of credit. Course offerings include English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Computers, Spanish, and Health & Physical Education. Electives vary according to student needs.  Noteworthy is Albemarle School's dual enrollment program with our local community college, College of the Albemarle.  Juniors and Seniors can enroll in classes physically or via the internet, receiving dual credit (high school and college). (Students must be 16 years old to participate.) Academic and civic clubs such as Beta Club and Student Government Association promote leadership and community service. Healthy competition is fostered through an active athletic program. High School students also assist with the publication of the yearbook and take active roles in all areas of school life.

Guidance and Counseling

A school counselor is available to offer academic, social and emotional support to students.  Each student is also assigned an advocate who can provide additional support/guidance to the student.  Staff members maintain an open-door policy of faculty-student and faculty-parent communication. Teachers and administrators are always available to listen and to provide assistance.  A supportive family atmosphere is a hallmark of Albemarle’s counseling approach. Students are encouraged to contribute to the community at large through civic volunteering and service learning. Juniors and seniors are required to complete a certain number of hours spent shadowing a professional in one of their own career interest areas.
