Inspiring Excellence and Character in a Nurturing Environment!

Grades 6th - 8th

Albemarle School’s middle school curriculum builds on the strong foundation provided by the elementary curriculum and facilitates a smooth transition from the elementary experience to our rigorous high school program. The middle school curriculum is designed to develop students’ critical thinking skills, independent study skills, and organizational skills. Physical education and a set of electives augment the core subjects of science, mathematics, language arts, and social studies.  Middle school teachers work together to offer students many cross-curricular experiences and strive to show students the real-life applications of their studies.

The rigorous Engage New York academic curriculum offers a wide range of opportunities for Albemarle School’s middle school students. A "hands on" science program builds on students’ natural curiosity as they investigate the physical world. A strong pre-algebra program prepares students for higher math. Language arts skills are exercised through the classics-based literature program and an emphasis on the writing process. World studies and an exploration of ancient civilizations through recent history comprise the social studies curriculum.

The core areas of language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science are enhanced by an activity- based enrichment program. Students sharpen their study and critical thinking skills and benefit from project-based instruction in computer technology that includes coding.

Student Life helps middle school students grow in other ways. A wide variety of extracurricular activities, participation in the athletic program, and many planned opportunities for social interaction encourage middle school students to develop into well-rounded individuals who have a lifelong love for learning.
